Four new charts

Today we're releasing a complete personal finance analytics update with four different charts. These charts will automatically fill with useful data if you've already been using the Envelope app. Let's look at each chart and see how it can help you run your family's finances.

1. Monthly Envelope spend

This chart shows your total 12-month spend from an Envelope. Pressing your finger down shows month-to-month spend. Swapping the toggle to "Max" will show the envelope's entire history

What questions does this chart answer?

  • How much did you spend last month on groceries?

  • Has your spending gone up or down over time?

2. Monthly Envelope balance

Similar to the previous chart, but this shows how the balance of an envelope has changed over time. This chart is enabled for Protected savings and goal envelopes.

What questions does this chart answer?

  • How quickly has my savings been growing?

  • Has my savings been going up or down?

3. Monthly Envelope breakdown

This table compares spending across each of your envelopes. By default, it only shows your top 4 envelopes, but you can tap the "More" button to show the full list. Monthly or yearly totals are available.

What questions does this chart answer?

  • What do I spend the most money on?

  • Do I spend more on Groceries, or Dining Out?

  • Should I cut back on certain areas?

  • How much did I spend on Rent last year?

4. Money In/Out table

This table shows the total amount of funds that have entered and exited your account during a given month or year. It also displays how many deposits and charges have occurred during that time.

What questions does this chart answer?

  • Did I save more than I spent last month?

  • How much am I spending from all Envelopes?

  • How many times am I funding my account with external deposits?
