How do I set up third-party payment apps to use with Envelope?
How do I set up third-party payment apps to use with Envelope?
Updated over 4 months ago

Third-Party Apps are external cash/payment apps used to send and receive money to and from individuals, merchants, and bank accounts. Common third-party payment apps include Venmo, PayPal, Facebook Pay, Google Pay, Apple Cash, and Cash App.

You can use these apps to move money to and from your Envelope Account, once you have added your Envelope Account and Routing number to the app. Account setup/verification, transfer limits, and transfer times will vary for each, as they are managed by the third-party app, not by Envelope. Below are some of the most common third-party payment apps you can connect with Envelope:

Venmo

You can link both your Envelope debit card and Envelope bank account number to your Venmo account. Then, you will be able to select Envelope as your payment method for sending money to friends, or for sites that use Venmo, as well as transferring money from your Venmo balance to your Envelope account. Venmo leverages Plaid exchange, so you can link both your card and account directly by searching for Envelope and verifying your phone number. Venmo has been a great partner and our users typically report same or next day ACH transfers. Visit Venmo's FAQ page if you have more questions on transferring money to and from Venmo.

Cash App

You can link your Envelope account numbers directly to Cash App. Keep in mind, Cash App only allows you to link one bank account and one debit card. If you have another account or card linked, you will need to replace it with the Envelope Account to connect.

Google Pay

With the Google Pay app, available to both Android and iOS users, you can add your Envelope Card and bank account number as a form of payment, as well as send and receive money from other bank accounts and individuals. Click here for more details on setting up your account with Google Pay

PayPal

You can link your Envelope bank account numbers and card to your PayPal account. Then, you can select Envelope as your payment method for sending money to friends or sites that use PayPal, as well as transferring money from your PayPal balance to your Envelope account. Follow the links for more information on sending and receiving money through PayPal.

Meta Pay (Facebook Pay, Instagram Pay, Messenger Pay)

  • Facebook Pay: You can link your Envelope card directly to process payments.

  • Instagram Pay: You can link your Envelope card directly to process payments.

  • Messenger Pay: You can link your Envelope card and account indirectly to send funds instantly using PayPal. While Messenger Pay does not support Envelope cards directly, you can select "PayPal" as your payment source. After linking your Envelope card and account to PayPal (instructions above), you will be given the option to fund your instant payment with your Envelope Account for free or with your Envelope Card for an additional fee.

Apple Pay/Apple Cash

Envelope cards are supported on Apple Pay. You can link your cards and use them for a contactless payment option. Apple Cash is a mobile wallet feature that allows you to send money directly from your Envelope debit card.

Zelle

Zelle is a payment processor that links accounts for transfers. You can link your Envelope debit card to the Zelle app to initiate transfers.
