Updated over a week ago

If you're looking to switch to an Envelope Account, we're here to help! Our team is dedicated to making the process as easy and seamless as possible. Here's what you need to know to fully switch over to an Envelope account:

Step 1: Open Your Envelope Account

To open an Envelope account, download the Envelope App and fill out the online application. Provide your personal information, such as your name, address, and social security number.

Step 2: Link Envelope to your current bank

If you current bank uses Plaid exchange, this is easy. You can look up Envelope on your current banks application and instantly link the accounts. If your current bank doesn’t leverage Plaid, you can use your Envelope Account and Routing number to verify and connect the accounts. After the accounts have been linked, you can initiate your first transfer to get some initial funds into the account.

Step 3: Transfer Your Direct Deposit

Next, make sure to transfer your direct deposits and automatic payments to your new Envelope account. Reach out to your employer's HR department to update your direct deposit information. Verify with your HR team when this change will take effect, so you can plan your bills and expenses accordingly.

Step 4: Update Your Mortgage/Rent Payment

Once you’ve updated your direct deposit and verified the update timeline, now is a great time to start updating your largest expense: housing. Log into your mortgage or rent portal to link your Envelope Account and Routing number.

Step 5: Update Reoccurring Payments

Pro tip: Download last months statement from your current bank. This will give you a list of any reoccurring monthly expenses. Go down the list and update any automatic payments to pull from your Envelope Card or account. Common items on this list would be:

  • Utility Bills

  • Car Payment

  • Insurance

  • Subscriptions

Step 6: Add Your Envelope Virtual Card to Apple Pay and Set as Default Card

Apple Pay is integrated into many applications on your phone including your fast food apps, so this is an easy task with a big impact.

Step 7: Link Envelope to Venmo, PayPal, or Cash App

Step 8: Close Your Old Bank Account

Once your direct deposits and automatic payments have been transferred, it's time to close your old bank account. Make sure that all outstanding checks have cleared, and that there are no recurring payments or automatic debits linked to your old account.

Step 9: Enjoy Your New Envelope Account

After successfully switching to an Envelopeaccount, you can now take advantage of our envelope budgeting system. Set up your budget, fund your envelopes, and start automating your financial goals.

In summary, switching to an Envelope Bank Account is a straightforward process that involves opening an account, transferring your direct deposits and automatic payments, closing your old account, and enjoying the benefits of our bank. Our customer service team is here to help you at every step of the way. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
