Introducing: Paycheck auto-amounts

Your envelopes now calculate exactly how much they need from every paycheck

Updated over a week ago

Today we’re launching one of our most requested features. Paycheck Auto-amounts automatically keeps you on track for upcoming bills, one-time goals, and anything else you budget for. This is budgeting on autopilot.

What is Auto-Amount?

Instead of choosing a fixed amount, like “$75 from every paycheck for Utilities,” you can now let an envelope determine what it needs each time you get paid.

  • No manual math

  • No recalculating when due dates shift

  • No adjusting when paychecks vary

Each envelope dynamically decides the right amount to stay on schedule.

How to Enable Auto-Amount

  1. Open the Envelopes tab

  2. Select an envelope

  3. Tap Edit

  4. Tap Add Funding

  5. Choose Auto-Amount at the top of the screen

How Does It Work?

Every time a paycheck arrives, Envelope looks at:

  • Upcoming budgets and due dates

  • The average time between your paychecks

  • Your current envelope balance

  • Your Available balance

Then we calculate how much needs to move from this paycheck to stay perfectly on track.

Example

  • $3,000 Mortgage due in 20 days

  • You get paid every 7 days

20 ÷ 7 ≈ 3 paychecks, including today

$3,000 ÷ 3 = $1,000 per paycheck

Each paycheck automatically transfers $1,000 to your Mortgage envelope.

Simple in theory. Powerful in practice.

But My Income Isn’t Simple

What if you and your partner have five income sources?
What if pay varies with overtime?
What if you also fund envelopes manually sometimes?

Auto-amount was built for real life.

Beyond the basic calculation, we also factor in:

  • Average and minimum paycheck amounts

  • Your partner’s expected paychecks

  • Other income sources

  • Planned non-paycheck funding, like “$200 on the 1st from Available”

  • Existing envelope balances

  • Your Available balance

All of this feeds into a forward-looking cash flow simulation that models your income, funding, and bills for several years into the future. If any future issues are detected, like a potential smaller paycheck or an unexpected expense, the current calculation adjusts automatically.

You stay on track without micromanaging every deposit.

Built for real life

Paycheck Auto-Amounts is designed to remove guesswork, reduce stress, and make your money move with intention.

Turn it on, and let your envelopes do the math.
